Our goal with the bionic Eyeglass is to create a device for visually impaired people that can help them to get orientation in everyday situations. The bionic eyeglass gives feedback to its user about the objects in the environment executing predefined tasks, such as color recognition, bank note recognition, detecting and recognizing signs and displays, etc.
The first experimental prototype has been implemented on a cell phone platform. The framework is available on Android, iOS, and Symbian S60 based devices. The experimental prototype has the following functions: banknote recognition, detection of pedestrian crosswalks and navigation through them, color recognition, and pictogram identification. The prototype is continuously tested on blind and visually impaired users through both in-lab and and live test conditions. Volunteers for the tests are welcome to contact us.
